Nintendo Switch Will Not Have Virtual Console At Launch

Since Nintendo has been so quiet about a lot of Nintendo Switch details a lot of us have been guessing this would be the case. Well our guessing can stop because now it’s official: the Virtual Console will not go live when the Switch launches next week, Nintendo said today.

“Virtual Console games will not be available on Nintendo Switch at launch,” the company said in a press release. “We will share more information in the future.”

It’s definitely disappointing news for a lot of us especially for anyone who hoped that Nintendo’s cache of classic games might help fill in the void between big Switch releases like Zelda and Super Mario Odyssey. The fact the Nintendo has been so hush and has held back details for this long on the Virtual Console—and given Nintendo’s history—it’s fair to expect the worst, we’ll try and be positive though, but one wonders why they would launch their system without it. Why Nintendo?

This is pretty disappointing and seems like something that absolutely should have been ready for this launch. I’m not having high hopes for the VC in general at this point.

DenverPesch I agree. It did take about 5 months for Nintendo to put the VC on the Wii U. I was just hoping they learned from that and would have it ready for launch on the Switch.
