New Details for Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash Announced

Mario and friends are back for another round of tennis in Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash. Today, we have some new details regarding the game.

  • Amiibo Compatibility will be featured in the game. Players can use supported amiibo to aid as doubles in the game, or they can be used in the offline Knockout Challenge mode. The more matches your amiibo plays, the more experience and skill the amiibo gains. The amiibo functionality seems very similar to that of Super Smash Bros. The supported amiibo are: Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, Yoshi, Yarn Yoshis, Rosalina, Wario, Toad and Donkey Kong.
  • In addition to the moves and shots you would find in previous Mario Tennis games, a new Ultra Smash move will showcase characters leaping high into the air and smashing the ball to the other side of the court. A Colorful Chance Area will aid players in unleashing powerful shots and slices.
  • Four gameplay modes will be offered: Knockout Challenge, Mega Battle, Classic Tennis, and Online Multiplayer.
    • Knockout Challenge is a single player mode in which you’ll fight increasingly difficult computer controlled characters.
    • Mega Battle features characters growing to gigantic proportions in which they can dominate the court with their increased range and power.
    • Classic Tennis has two variations. Standard mode features Chance and Jump shots with no Mega Mushrooms, while Simple mode is just pure tennis.
    • Online Multiplayer has you facing opponents online in Mega Battle or Classic Tennis modes. Ranked and casual matches are offered. Two players on one console can team up online, or a single player can use a supported amiibo as another teammate online.
  • Finally players can choose their favorite control options, including the Wii U GamePad, Wii Remote, Wii U Pro Controller and Classic Controller Pro.

Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash launches November 20th on Wii U. Will you be picking the game up? Let us know in the comments.
